Restoring the Ghaqba Windmill – CultureMill project

One of the biggest projects that the Council has ever entertained is undoubtedly the restoration of the Ghaqba Windmill. This project which was launched earlier this year and worth about 700,000EUR is partly financed by the European Union, as part of the European Regional Development Fund – Structural Funds for European Investment 2014-2020.
This project will consist of restoration of the building of the windmill and an interactive attraction with regards to the functions of same windmill. The site will also be used as a venue for exhibitions and as a cultural center.
This windmill will also serve as a tourist attraction and the Council is committed to bring thousands of tourists to visit every year. To this end the Council also thought to embellish and equip the entire zone as befits a touristic area.
The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2020.
Restawr tal-Mitħna tal-Għaqba – proġett CultureMill
Wieħed mill-ikbar proġetti li l-Kunsill qatt daħal għalihom huwa bla dubju r-restawr tal-Mitħna tal-Għaqba. Dan il-progett li gie mniedi aktar kmieni din is-sena u li jiswa’ madwar 700,000EUR hu parzjalment iffinanzjat mill-Unjoni Ewropea, bħala parti mill-Fond Ewropew għall-Iżvilupp Reġjonali – Fondi Strutturali u ta’ Investiment Ewropej 2014-2020.
Dan il-proġett se jkun qed jikkonsisti f’restawr tal-bini tal-mitħna u f’attrazzjoni interattiva dwar il-funzjoni tal-istess mitħna. Il-post se jkun qed jintuża wkoll bħala post għall-wirjiet u bħala ċentru kulturali.
Din il-mitħna se sservi wkoll bħala attrazzjoni turistika u l-Kunsill huwa kommess li jġib eluf ta’ turisti jżuruha kull sena. Għal dan il-għan il-Kunsill ħaseb ukoll biex isebbaħ u jattrezza ż-żona kollha kif jixraq lil żona turistika.
