Co-operation Agreement between Naxxar Local Council and Hailsham, England.

Contacts between the Naxxar Local Council and the locality of Hailsham, England led to a delegation of eight people from Hailsham, amongst whom the Mayor, Mr Robert Burnett, visiting Naxxar on the 4th till the 7th May 2004.

This visit was made possible by the direct involvement of H.E Vincent Fean, English High Commissioner of the time.

During this visit a co-operation agreement between both localities was signed. Various discussions were held with regards to bilateral interests amongst which European funding opportunities.

In 2006 the Hailsham invited the Mayor, Dr. Maria Deguara and Executive Secretary, Mr Paul Gatt, to visit Hailsham to explore in further detail opportunities for European Funds. The visit took place between the 29th June and 2nd July 2006. Discussions focused mostly on projects involving the elderly and youths, which were received with enthusiasm by Hailsham.

The visit by the Mayor and Executive Secretary in Hailsham created a lot of interest, so much so that a number of journalists interviewed Dr Deguara during some of the activities. One such interview was broadcast on Sovereign Radio 107.5 fm. During this interview the Mayor expressed satisfaction for the interest being shown by Hailsham and East Sussex.
