Co-operation between Naxxar Local Council and the 2nd District of Bucharest in Romania.

In November 2003 a delegation from the second district of the City of Bucharest in Romanian met the Mayor, Councillors and officials from Naxxar Local Council to discuss various issues of mutual interest between the two Councils.  Meetings were held at Naxxar Local Council and the first co-operation agreement was signed by Naxxar Mayor, Dr Maria Deguara and Mayor of the 2nd District of Bucharest, Mr Neculai Onţanu on the 8th of November.

The Romanian delegation, led by the Mayor, Neculai Onţanu, included Councillors, a number of Department heads within the Council together along with members of Romanian media, including a journalist and camera man. The delegation were also taken on a tour around Naxxar.

Subsequently, the Local Council of the 2nd District of Bucharest invited a delegation from the Naxxar Local Council to visit their city. The trip was set to be between the 11th and 14th September 2009. The Naxxar delegation was made up of the Mayor, Dr Maria Deguara, Vice Mayor Mr Pierre Sciberras, Councillors, Clifford Galea, Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami and Pauline Miceli, together with Executive Secretary, Mr Paul Gatt.

The Naxxar delegation visited various places of interest and could see the work being carried out by the Local Council of Bucharest,and the quality of services provided. The Naxxar delegation also visited the Romanian Parliament building, which is the second largest building in the world.

The Naxxar delegation also met with the Romanian Foreign Affairs Minister, Cristian Diaconescu. Among other things, the economic problems around the world that are effecting various nations were discussed. At the end of the meeting the Mayor, Dr Deguara, presented the book ‘Naxxar, A Village and its People’ to Minister Diaconescu.
