Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami – new Mayor of Naxxar

Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami is the third Mayor of Naxxar.

During an extraordinary Council meeting held on Monday 26 June 2017, Anne Marie Muscat Fenech Adami took Oath of Office as the third Mayor of Naxxar after Mr Angelo Xuereb and Dr Maria Deguara.  The latter, who is the longest serving Mayor of Naxxar (2000-2017) had to resign from the Local Council to take up her new role as Member of Parliament on behalf of the Nationalist Party.  Hon. Dr Deguara was elected following a bye election held on Wednesday 21 June 2017.

Consequently, Mr Clinton Sammut was entitled to take up the role of Deputy Mayor.  He also took Oath of Office during same meeting which was officiated by Justice Commissioner Dr Ian Micallef.

Also present for the meeting, amongst a large number of people, were both previous Mayors, President of the Regional Committee Mr Anton Mifsud, the Archpriest Fr David Gauci, newly elected Hon. Ivan Bartolo, family members of the Mayor and Deputy Mayor and officials from local organisations.

During a short address, Hon. Dr Maria Deguara, thanked the Councillors, the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor, Executive Secretary Paul Gatt and all the staff at the Local Council.  She also thanked the residents of Naxxar and urged Mayor Muscat Fenech Adami to continue working in the best interest of the locality.

During her maiden speech Mrs Muscat Fenech Adami stressed on the importance of the Councillors working together,  to invest in local organisations, effective communication, good governance and the regular upkeep of the locality.

She pledged to do her utmost to motivate all Council members to give all their energy.  She will be assigning new roles for Local Councillors during next Council meeting promising not to assign roles unless they are happy with them.
